New Braunfels might be a fairly small city, but that doesn’t mean you should write it off as boring.
In fact, there are so many New Braunfels attractions worth visiting that you’ll probably be inspired to plan your next trip there by the time you’re done reading this post!
So, go ahead – check out this list of my favorite things to do in New Braunfels, and you’re sure to find something you’ll enjoy.
Fun Things to Do in New Braunfels, TX
Looking for some seasonal fun in November? Consider attending WurstFest, where you’ll enjoy live music and entertainment, sausage (as well as other food and drink options), delicious beer, and a celebration of German culture!
If you do decide to attend, just make sure your bring lots of cash – you’ll need it for the food and drinks.
This waterpark is a popular summer destination in New Braunfels and features loads of thrilling waterslides as well as a lazy river. If you’ve got small children, you’ll be happy to know that they have plenty of kid-friendly attractions too, including a kiddie pool and a five-story water fun house!
You can even stay at The Resort at Schlitterbahn if you want a room that’s within walking distance of the park. Check out their operating schedule to plan your next trip!
Visit natural bridge caverns, and you’ll enjoy much more than a cave tour – they also have an open air maze challenge, gem and fossil mining activities, and a zip line! You can even stick around at night to witness the evening emergence of a huge bat colony.
As you can imagine, this attraction might not be suitable for the faint of heart. But, if you and your loved ones are looking for an exciting adventure, check it out!
Gruene Historic District
Technically, Gruene isn’t part of New Braunfels. But, it’s close enough (right on the outskirts) that many people who visit New Braunfels take some time to check out Gruene too.
Gruene Historic District is great for out-of-towners who are visiting and want to walk around a bustling area full of shops, restaurants, and bars. They even feature live music and a dance hall!
If you decide to visit Gruene, make sure you wear your most comfy walking shoes and keep track of where you parked – it’s a pretty big area to cover on foot.
If you’re looking to experience the great outdoors, head over to Landa Park. There, you’ll find a walking path, picnic facilities, and even a miniature train! You can also head out on Landa Lake on a paddleboat or show off your miniature golf skills at Landa Park Miniature Golf.
If you decide to bring a furry friend to the park with you, make sure they’re leashed. Also, keep in mind that you’ll need to pay a fee of $10.00 if you plan to have a picnic!
Float the Guadalupe River
Whether you’re into rafting or tubing, you’ll enjoy your trip down the beautiful Guadalupe River. Make sure you dress appropriately by choosing tennis shoes or river sandals and avoiding any clothing that could restrict your ability to swim.
Before you schedule your next trip, remember to check out the rules for floating the river so you can pack and plan accordingly. Oh, and don’t forget the sunscreen!
Ever feel nostalgic for the good old days? If so, you’ll love your experience at the Stars & Stripes Drive-in Theater. They’re open year-round, and they even have a 50’s-style café! Plus, tickets are incredibly reasonable – adults (ages 12 and up) can enjoy a movie for just 8 bucks.
If you decide to catch a film at the drive-in, keep in mind that you’ll need to arrive one hour before your movie starts to enjoy the full experience!
Are you an athletic thrill-seeker? If you are and enjoy wakeboarding, snowboarding, skateboarding, you’ll find that Texas Ski Ranch is definitely worth checking out!
I know what you’re thinking – snowboarding? In TEXAS?
While they don’t have real snow, they do have slopes made of artificial turf that simulate the true snowboarding experience. It’s a great way to try out snowboarding if you’ve never done it before.
If you’re not into extreme sports, you can head over to their trampoline park, which features 15,000 square feet of bouncy fun! Or, if you’re looking for some retail therapy, check out their board shop.
If you’ve ever wanted to go on an African safari, this is your chance to do it (minus actually traveling to Africa, of course)! You’ll drive through the ranch to find zebras, goats, kangaroos, and lots of other animals you wouldn’t normally see wandering around Texas.
They also have a petting barnyard – perfect for small children who want to take a closer look at some of the animals. And, if you’re heading to the ranch for your kid’s birthday, you can choose one of their special birthday packages for anyone turning 3 to 11 years old.
Technically, this one isn’t in New Braunfels. But, it’s pretty close and definitely deserves a spot on the list because of its uniqueness – I mean, it is a 3.5 acre island in Texas!
You can rent out the entire island if you want, or you can simply enjoy some time in one of the 14 open-air cabanas. Make sure you bring your boat if you have one (many of the cabanas feature a dock). If you don’t have a boat, you can rent a pontoon or fishing boat on site once you arrive.
